Salalah is the capital of Oman’s Dhofar region and is the country’s second-largest city – it can easily be reached by taking one of the regular two-hour internal flights from Muscat. It is located in a subtropical region, and is much more lush and green than the capital with a cooler summer climate.
The port and ‘Marina Town’ have both recently been developed. The main draw, though, is the ancient site of Al Baleed, the oldest parts of which date back to the 12th century. It is a revered place, with burial grounds and places of religious importance.
